Is doing great work enough to earn reputation and become successful?
My answer to this question was a yes for a very long time. I was of an opinion that self-promotion is boastful and should not be done.
Nothing changed for me till I kept those self-limiting beliefs. However, once I took the responsibility of educating others about “how” can I add value to them through my work, my doors were flooded with opportunities I was always dreaming about.
That’s the power of Personal Branding !
If you wish to maximize your successes by building your Personal Brand, here are three steps for you to start.
Take control of your Personal Branding
Everyone has a Personal Brand but most people are not aware of this and do not manage it strategically and consistently. If you will not take the ownership of showing the world the sides of your personality that you want them to see, people would love to brand you with their perceptions, which may not be how you want to be perceived.
Therefore, it is very important for you to take control of what you want to be known for in the world and how you are perceived by others.

Know your authentic Personal Brand
To show the world what you are and how you can be of value to others, it is essential for you to do a little self-audit exercise. Reflect on your values, strengths, weaknesses and skills and make a note.
Any time you seriously want to know your authentic brand, you need to know the opinion of others. Sometimes others perceive us differently than we perceive our self. They might tell you about some of your strengths, weaknesses, skills and values which you have not paid much attention to.
Therefore seek genuine feedback from your colleagues, friends and family members and be open and receptive to their opinions. Remember you asked for it.

Communicate your brand to the world
Now, when you have clarity about what you are and how you are perceived, the next crucial step is to draft your Personal Brand Statement.
Your statement is 1-2 sentences answering what you are best at (Your values and strengths), who you wish to serve (your target audience) and how you stand out from your competition ( your unique offerings). It is your promise to the world which tells them what benefits you bring along and how will they feel in your presence and when you have left the room.
Once you have done that and you have an authentic brand statement, that feels true to you, go out and communicate that to the world. Network with those whom you want to know about your unique offerings. Update and use your social media to communicate your message through your posts and comments. Remember to be clear, consistent and constant with your message on every touchpoint with the world.
